Teaching in which the subject matter is approached with quality not only seeks to help students make new connections and generalisations in their minds but also helps them to understand and master procedures and methods. Lessons vary with respect to how much they focus on one or both of these overall goals, making some lessons more conceptual and others more focused on procedures or practise. However, in either case, it is important to think about how the subject matter is being approached for building rich and accurate knowledge and skills.
